MIAMI (Reuters) - The noted Colorado State University hurricane research team on Tuesday said it expects well above-average Atlantic hurricane activity in September, with four hurricanes, two of which will become major storms.
"We predict that September will be quite active based on climate signals through August," said pioneer hurricane season forecaster Dr. Bill Gray, founder of the research team.
The team issued its last seasonal outlook in August, when it cited improved conditions for storm development, including warmer sea surface temperatures in the eastern Atlantic, as among reasons to expect an active hurricane season.
